I'm Mallory, a wedding planner based in Charlottesville, VA With a passion for weddings and an eye for details, I help create a personalized and seamless experience for you and your guests.
Every couple wants a stress free wedding day. And while I wish I could promise nothing unexpected will happen, that’s just not realistic. Weddings involve a lot of people, moving parts, and timelines, so little hiccups are almost inevitable.
But I have good news! They rarely become problems when you plan ahead.
As a wedding planner, my goal isn’t to create a “perfect” wedding day. It’s to create a day that feels calm, intentional, and allows you to actually enjoy getting married.
Here are my biggest tips for having a stress free wedding day.

Buffers are your best friend.
The biggest source of stress I see on a wedding day is simply a timeline that’s too tight. When every event is scheduled back to back, one small delay creates a domino effect for the rest of the day.
Building in extra time gives you breathing room if something takes longer than anticipated. It also gives your photo and video team more flexibility, keeps you from constantly watching the clock, and allows you to actually be present instead of feeling rushed.
Once your wedding day begins, let your planner handle the questions and let your vendors do what they do best.
You shouldn’t be the one answering timeline questions, solving problems, checking on decor, or figuring out where guests need to go. That’s our job!
One thing I always remind my couples is that every wedding has tiny hiccups. Guests rarely notice them, and they almost never affect the overall experience.
If you catch yourself worrying, pause for a second and remember the most important goal:
You’re marrying the love of your life – everything else is just a detail.
Surround yourself with people who bring calm, not chaos.
The morning should be filled with your biggest cheerleaders – people who lift you up and keep the energy positive.
We don’t need Negative Nancys! People who complain, create drama, or bring unnecessary stress can completely shift the mood, and your wedding day is not the time to manage someone else’s emotions.
Protect your peace!
Wedding days go by incredibly fast.
One of my favorite ways to help couples slow everything down is intentionally building in a quiet moment together.
For some couples, that’s a private first look before the ceremony. Others prefer five or ten minutes together immediately after the ceremony before joining cocktail hour. Some choose a private last dance at the end of the night.
Whatever it looks like, having even a few uninterrupted minutes together helps you slow down and enjoy the day instead of feeling like it flew by.
One of the easiest ways to create a stress free wedding day actually starts months before your wedding.
Clear communication and preparation make all the difference. The more information your vendor team has ahead of time, the less everyone has to figure out on the wedding day itself. Instead of tracking down answers, we can focus on executing your vision.
And while a lot of brides like putting together their own emergency kits, just know that as your planner, I always have my “Mary Poppins” bag packed with everything you might need.
Put down the phone, put down the binder, and resist checking the time or you emails.
One of the best things you can do on your wedding day is put down your phone. Hand it over to your maid of honor, best man, planner, or another trusted family member.
I provide my phone number to the VIPs of the day – your wedding party, parents, and siblings – so they can contact me directly with questions instead of bothering the couple.
It’s one of the simplest ways to stay present.
This sounds obvious, but you’d be surprised how often nerves get in the way.
Have a real breakfast, snack throughout the day, and drink plenty of water.
Low blood sugar is responsible for a lot of unnecessary stress, especially during a long wedding day!

One wedding immediately comes to mind when I think about preparation.
The couple wanted all of their formal photos finished before the ceremony so they could fully enjoy cocktail hour. On the wedding day, though, parents decided they wanted to add several extra family photo combinations that hadn’t been discussed ahead of time.
Those last-minute additions pushed family photos back, and the couple ended up missing almost 30 minutes of cocktail hour.
It wasn’t anyone’s fault. It just could have been avoided with a little more communication beforehand.
That’s why I encourage couples to finalize things like family photo lists before the wedding day. It protects your timeline and helps protect your peace.
Whether it’s finding seats for unexpected guests, securing signs before the wind blows them away, fixing missing meal indicators before dinner service, or handling one of the countless little surprises that pop up throughout the day, my team is already working on the solution before it ever reaches you.
We don’t plan weddings expecting problems, but we do design the day assuming real life will happen.
That preparation is what allows your wedding day to feel calm, seamless, and most importantly, enjoyable.
If you’re looking for someone who will not only help plan your wedding but also protect your peace on the wedding day itself, I’d love to help. Reach out and let’s start planning a wedding day that lets you focus on what matters most – celebrating with your favorite people!
