Before Abby & Patrick’s colorful summer wedding, they had a movie-worthy meet cute. The setting was a small coffee shop in NYC. Abby was working as a barista, and Patrick’s apartment was right across the street. In classic Hollywood fashion, girl gives boy free coffee and boy misses the flirting cues for a while. But a few weeks later, boy left his name and number on a piece of paper, and it led us all to a colorful summer wedding in Virginia!
When we started working together, they said they wanted to concentrate on having a “cozy luxury, nature oriented wedding” so we put together a design called mountain chic meets elegant lawn party. The goal was to have vibrant and colorful flowers (the more the better). Their must haves included incredible food, great wine & craft beer, amazing live music, and wildflowers. With the vendor team we had, this was not only possible, but easy!
Abby & Patrick didn’t have any connection to The Seclusion, but they fell in love right away when they saw the property.
It was exclusive, private, and intimate – exactly what they were looking for. The lawn (with lounge seating and firepits) and the view provided the perfect backdrop to their elegant lawn party. From the wildflower field to the helpful and wonderful property owners Trish and Brian, there are so many great things about this Virginia wedding venue.
An insider tip for this VA wedding venue: I highly recommend transportation here with the mountain and dirt roads at night. Two large coach buses brought up all the guests for Abby & Patrick’s wedding from downtown Lexington to keep it easy and safe for everyone.
We decided to do a short pre-ceremony cocktail hour and it was a great way to start off the event. We greeted guests with champagne and they could mingle and snag a snack from the giant cheese board before we got started with our ceremony. This also gave the photographers an opportunity to get more guest portraits as they arrived.

Abby let her girls pick out their own dresses and color as long as it stayed in our palette. We used all the colors!! We also decided to make each bridesmaid carry flowers that coordinated with their dress color which was extra special. The flowers overall were gorgeous and an absolute favorite – Mary Pearl always does an amazing job.
After the ceremony, we rolled right into the classic cocktail hour and it was such a vibe! We had our trio from our band playing live music while guests sipped on fantastic signature cocktails. There was a bar (conveniently from Seclusion rentals) outside all night for everyone to enjoy. The weather that evening was phenomenal, and so many people enjoyed the natural surroundings after dinner with drinks in hand at the fire pits before coming in to dance once dusk hit. The perfect way to wrap up this gorgeous mountain chic lawn party wedding!
