Kaz and Dave’s timeless DC wedding was a regal affair we won’t be forgetting any time soon. With the ceremony at the Cathedral of St. Matthew the Apostle, the reception at The Mayflower Hotel, and all of their personal touches, their big day was perfect!
DC is where these two met, had their first date, and eventually got engaged. Even though Dave moved to Dubai early on in their relationship, making it long distance for a while, it just made sense to have their wedding day in DC as well. I loved having the opportunity to be back at The Mayflower. As a previous Event Manager for Marriott at The Mayflower, it’s like a second home to me. It is still the gorgeous venue I remember it as, even with all the same servers I knew from years ago!
After their beautiful ceremony at St. Matthew the Apostle, a mariachi band played while everyone exited. This was a nod to the bride’s Texas roots, and was just one of the many personal touches that made this day so special. The church is only a block away from the hotel, so it was an easy walk over to the reception.
A really special part of this day was that it was Kaz’s 30th birthday. I’ve never had a wedding on a bride’s birthday before, but it just meant more to celebrate! We had a mini celebration in the bridal suite with her bridesmaids, cake, and champagne. Dave also surprised Kaz with a cake with sparkler candles for everyone to sing happy birthday to her. While everyone was singing, cold sparks and confetti cannons went off – it was truly amazing!
They had their parents share in their grand entrance, and gave them a special dance to celebrate their anniversaries. (Dave’s parents celebrated 39 years that same night, and Kaz’s parents had just celebrated 30 years!) They even went as far as incorporating much smaller things into their day like the champagne flutes and wedding cake topper that were from Dave’s parent’s wedding. I thought these nods to their parents were so sweet.
These two wanted a classic, timeless DC wedding and that is definitely what they got! A fun guest experience was so important to them, and together we made that happen. I loved helping make this dream a reality for Kaz and Dave!
