Lea & Mike’s DC wedding made perfect sense with their DC love story. They met working for a Congressman on Capitol Hill, got engaged in front of the Capitol, and said “I do” in the DC War Memorial. Their reception at the Spy Museum wrapped up the perfect DC wedding day!
The DC War Memorial is the perfect spot for an intimate ceremony. It’s off the beaten path of the other memorials and monuments, which gives it more of a secluded feel. We also didn’t have to worry too much about rain since it’s covered. Tucked away from the tourists with the string duo playing as the floral garden meadows served as a backdrop made for such a beautiful intimate DC wedding.
My biggest tip for a DC War Memorial wedding ceremony is to make sure you get your permits early! The memorial wasn’t available in the timeframe we were hoping for, so we had to adjust our timeline. Luckily, we were able to make it work with ample time for setting up and moving guests between both venues.
The box of invitations got lost in transit, but we tracked them down. The original seating chart idea did not come through, but the groom’s brother came to the rescue less than 2 weeks out and made one, strapped it to the top of his car, and got it to DC from Richmond. MAB saved the day to deliver the Hollywood waves Lea wanted when her hair dresser couldn’t make it due to illness. While we hope there are no hiccups, things happen, and we at All the Dainty Details are always ready to problem solve and make sure that a few mishaps don’t derail your big day!
I loved how they wove DC throughout their wedding to honor their Capitol love story. DC themed chocolate covered Oreos housed in a Capitol candy jar served as wedding favors, the DC skyline was on their invitations, and their seating chart was an ode to “the people and places that shaped us.” It’s little details like these that make a wedding so special.
If you’re dreaming of a quintessential DC wedding of your own, reach out! We’d love to be a part of your love story, helping you every step of the way.
