There are a lot of elegant wedding venues to choose from when it comes to a wedding venue in Virginia. As a Virginia wedding planner I have to say, Great Marsh Estate is one you shouldn’t miss out on. Grand, timeless, rustic, and elegant are all words that can be used to describe this perfect place to say “I do.”

Great Marsh Estate was originally constructed in the 1980s to create a manor reflective of a traditional Georgian manor. It was a residence for many years before they made the transition to a wedding venue in 2018.

There is no onsite lodging, but there are multiple suites upstairs for the couple and wedding party to use to get ready in. Whether you have a large or small group, you will have plenty of room. My favorite is the bridal suite. There’s lots of natural light, a fireplace, and a large bed for those cute pajama bridesmaid photos with a large closet to hang all the dresses. The space for the men downstairs features a spacious lounge area that includes pool tables and a bar area.

Guests will drive up a tree lined pathway to the main house with a large lot to park by the stables. The venue provides golf carts driven by staff to transport guests the short distance from the lot to the ceremony space and back for the reception. Guests can relax on the main floor of the house and tour around before the ceremony starts.

The spot faces a wide open field that makes you feel totally secluded there in that moment. On the other end, tall dramatic back steps come down from the manor that the bride can process down. It’s a stunning wedding ceremony location!

After the ceremony, it’s a short walk through a tree lined path to the stables for the reception. (Golf carts are available for this transition, too!) Guests will be wowed by the chandeliers (that I would highly encourage draping in greenery), original wooden beams and detailing, and big barn doors that the couple can make their grand entrance through. Cocktail hour can take place on the front lawn or the back of the stables outdoors with lawn chairs, fire pits, and yard games. The property is large, so a tented reception would work great here as well.

With this large property comes lots of photo opportunities – there is no limit to backdrops for photos. You have the staircase at the front of the manor, rolling hills, an onsite pond, a bridge, and the fields beside the stables.

The owners of Great Marsh Estate are a local couple who also own Serendipity Catering. Serendipity Catering and Great Marsh work as sister-companies, and Serendipity is Great Marsh’s exclusive caterer. They also handle the rentals through Select Event Group. All of this makes everything so convenient when it comes to booking your vendors.

I love how you can have the best of both worlds with this elegant wedding venue.
