I'm Mallory, a wedding planner based in Charlottesville, Virginia. Traveling throughout Richmond, Northern Virginia and Washington D.C. With a passion for weddings and an eye for details, I help create a personalized and seamless experience for you and your guests.
If you’ve been wondering how to pull off a beautiful outdoor wedding, you’ll love Sam and Jay’s big day! Held at Jay’s family farm just an hour outside of Charlottesville, VA, no detail was missed. From the ceremony up in the fields to the reception under the sailcloth tent, this farm wedding had it all!
When Sam first reached out to me, she had previously been working with another planner, but was left feeling stressed. Sam and Jay’s main concerns were design and logistics, since we would be creating the venue from scratch. They signed the contract and we met 4 days later. I was happy to jump right in and help them feel more comfortable and confident during the wedding planning process!
The seclusion of this family farm and the gorgeous views made it unlike many other outdoor wedding venues. It’s a spacious farm, so we had a shuttle bus that took guests up to the field for the ceremony. Sheep and horses were nearby – definitely had all the farm wedding vibes!
Sam and Jay said “I do” on a beautiful, clear day for October. We prepared with heaters and blankets for the guests in case the temperature dropped when the sun set. Luckily, the day was the perfect temperature and we didn’t need the heaters at all! It was a bit windy though and the ceremony arch must have blown over 3 times before the ceremony. But our florists were rock stars and we got it into place before any of the guests came up and it stayed up the remainder of the time!
First and foremost, I LOVED their confetti ceremony send off! We passed out confetti poppers to guests as they sat down. It looked amazing as they popped them when the couple recessed back down the aisle! Drinks were flowing all day – we had cocktail hour on the lawn with an oyster shucking bar and late night espresso martinis.
The LED cowboy hats we had were a huge hit at the reception. I couldn’t unwrap them fast enough for guests to take to the dance floor. Speaking of which, DJ Gbaby kept the dance floor packed all night as Sam, Jay, and all of their loved ones continued to celebrate. They finished off the night by surprising their guests with a fireworks show, and it was such a wonderful way to round out this beautiful outdoor wedding day!
Sam and Jay, I loved getting to know you both throughout the planning. Sam, I will miss getting your texts about what trend you saw on TikTok or what additional decor purchases you made for the wedding. I am so happy that I was part of such a special day.
