It’s the most wonderful time of the year, which means we must share some festive winter wedding ideas.
Winter weddings are so magical! Paired with the decor, colors, and warmth associated with the season, a holiday wedding can be super cozy and ultra romantic. It’s a time dedicated to spending quality time with loved ones and everyone is in good spirits. If you love all the things that make December special, a holiday wedding is perfect for you.
Here are a few ways that you can make your winter wedding special during this festive season.
Take this opportunity to be bold! Add faux fur coats or chic capes to the bridal outfit or the bridesmaids dresses. Speaking of bridesmaids, think metallic colors, velvets, jewel tones, and sequins. For the groom, consider tweed, velvet, or a silvery gray suit. Lean into the season with the attire choices!
Incorporating flavors like cinnamon, peppermint, and cranberry into your menu can be a nice way to add a dose of holiday charm. You can let your guests spike their own cocktails by setting up a self-serve apple cider bar or hot chocolate station with all the flavorings. As a fun welcome treat, you can offer a hot toddy or mulled wine as guests arrive for the ceremony. Food and beverages is a great way to set the ambiance you’re going for with your winter wedding!
Decking out your holiday wedding tablescape in silver and gold metallics. This will provide a chic and elegant look without resorting to green and red decor.
There is nothing we love more than an overabundance of magical twinkle lights! They create a romantic atmosphere no matter the season – plus, they can make a big impact without a big cost. Candles in cut glass candle holders, mercury glass touches, and twinkle lights can all bring festive vibes to your winter wedding while adding to the ambiance of the occasion.
Embrace the holiday wedding theme by creating custom place cards. There are boundless ideas on what decor you can incorporate, from pine sprigs to jingle bells, from mulling spices to keepsake ornaments.
Greenery is a natural choice and perfect homage to a winter wedding. Embrace winter foliage by incorporating it into your floral arrangements. Holly berries, deep read roses, sprigs of evergreen, and even pinecones are great additions. Hang fresh wreaths and garlands in the space or use birch tree branch accents. Any combination of these items will add to your winter wedding vibe!
For a ceremony or grand exit, try snow! What is more magical than a newlywed couple walking through the falling snow?
You should give your guests plenty of notice as the holiday season is heavily traveled. It is best to give them enough time should they need to rearrange their travel plans to include your wedding.
In the same breath, you should expect more no’s (especially if you have more out of town guests) due to potentially higher travel costs or those pre-planned trips that limit their availability.
Having your winter wedding be specifically holiday themed can be tricky! While holiday details such as red and green decor are all reminiscent of the season, you don’t want your guests to feel like they’re at a holiday party instead of your wedding.
Also, be sure to book your vendors with plenty of time. If you leave it to the last minute, odds are you won’t be able to secure who you need.
And last but certainly not least, embrace the weather and consider travel delays. Snow can be tricky and hard to accurately predict, so build in some wiggle room, always have a back up plan, and try to have realistic expectations. There’s only so much you can control!
With all of this in mind, you should be ready to plan the festive winter wedding of your dreams! If you’d like some assistance in that process, please don’t hesitate to reach out – we’d love to be a part of your special day.
