Picture this: a gorgeous fall day in Middleburg, Virginia. Madi & Alex, a laid back couple with the biggest and kindest hearts, have the simple backyard farm wedding of their dreams. These lovebirds wanted their guests to feel relaxed and like they’re just hanging out with some of their favorite people. So that’s exactly what we gave them!
Madi & Alex got married on the farm that they live on! 4 Lucky Ducks was the perfect wedding venue for these two. Getting to take some of their wedding photos on their actual front porch is beyond special.
I will admit, I was skeptical at first when they told me they wanted to get married on a farm with a barn. Since this isn’t an actual wedding venue, you never know what kind of barn you are going to get. I needed to get out there right away for a site visit so we could lay out the logistics and find the best vendor team.
I loved a lot of things about the farm right away. One of my favorites was the private bridge area where we took the couple for their first look. The pastures were perfect for the ceremony overlooking the sheep and highland cow. And you can’t forget the black barn where we had our dancing and the bar. It was connected to the getting ready space for the ladies and was very modern and chic. It turned out to be the perfect private residence farm with a barn for a wedding!
There were wind gusts up to 30 mph throughout the day, which made setting up our outdoor ceremony a little challenging at times. The arch fell over but our amazing florist Maribel did a fantastic job making sure it was up and secure without any issues by go-time. We did lose a couple cocktail tables to the wind as well, but we fixed that by moving them inside the stable barn. Our vendor team did an amazing job keeping things under control! And luckily, the wind did die down by the time we started at 5pm.
My favorite part of the day was after Madi & Alex signed their marriage license. We brought them food and champagne and they sat in their Tommy Bahama chairs up on a hill, away from the cocktail hour, just the two of them. They use these chairs for every concert they go to, and this is one of their favorite ways to hang out outside. I loved that they took a moment to themselves in the best way they knew how.
She asked for assistance in decorating the walls of the barn where everyone would be dancing to surprise the couple. The walls had pre-existing shelves and she enlisted the help of all the guests to send in photos of them on their wedding day and other photos with the couple. We lined all the shelves in black and white photos with some candles and greenery. The surprise went off without a hitch and it was beautiful. I even had a photo on the wall!
Between the personal touches and moments and the nods to farm life through their wedding decor, this backyard farm wedding couldn’t have been better. Congratulations to Madi & Alex!
